if you don’t know me, i am kelley, betsy’s youngest daughter: “the one that lives in california”. i am here in palisade with her presently.
this blog is a place for me to put information so i don’t need to return telephone calls as much and don’t feel bad for not being able to keep everybody up to date on her status. my mom has many dear friends, it’s hard to keep track of everyone.
betsy was diagnosed with cancer on tuesday, august 9th after a very short period of symptoms that she first noticed at the begining of june. the symptoms rapidly got worse over the course of the following weeks and she was checked into st. mary’s hospital in grand junction on wednesday, august 10th.
in essence: in may she was fine. now she is very, very ill.
the bottom diagnosis is that my mom has plasma cell leukemia. the early diagnosis was multiple myeloma. this form of leukemia basically ‘includes’ everything that multiple myeloma presents, but is worse. in layman’s terms: she has blood cancer and bone marrow cancer.
if there are any updates to her status, i will do my best to post them here. meanwhile, i am staying by her side, helping her, and doing anything i can to help her be more comfortable and encouraging her to fight this thing.
